IPL 2023: Jofra Archer's heroics in vain as KKR beat RR by 7 wickets
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by seven wickets in Match 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, thanks to a brilliant bowling performance and a half-century from Nitish Rana.
KKR won the toss and put RR into bat. The Royals got off to a slow start, losing opener Jos Buttler for just 11 runs in the third over. Devdutt Padikkal and Sanju Samson then steadied the innings with a 50-run partnership, but both batsmen were dismissed in quick succession by Andre Russell and Sunil Narine, respectively.
Jofra Archer then came to RR's rescue with a stunning innings of 43 runs off just 22 balls, including three fours and three sixes. His knock helped RR post a respectable total of 152/8 in their allotted 20 overs.
In reply, KKR lost opener Venky Iyer early on, but Rana and Baba Aparajith put on a 72-run partnership for the second wicket to put their team in control of the chase. Rana was eventually dismissed for 53 runs, but skipper Shreyas Iyer and Sam Billings saw KKR home with relative ease, reaching the target with seven wickets and 10 balls to spare.
With this win, KKR moved up to fifth place in the IPL 2023 standings, while RR remained in eighth place.
